Staying at the Porterhaus in Fredericksburg, hosted by Rick and Karen, was a truly unforgettable experience—one that felt divinely timed and filled with warmth. From the moment we arrived, we were embraced by a sense of peace and hospitality that is rare to find. Though the home had a cozy and welcoming charm, it was also expansive and beautifully laid out, filled with thoughtful touches and elegant design. The back porch overlooked a serene field atop a hill, where we spent our mornings sipping hot, quality coffee while watching hummingbirds flit through the quiet air. Karen’s kindness and wisdom touched me deeply—she made me emotional on more than one occasion. She is one of the most gracious, genuine hosts we’ve ever met, and her home reflects that same spirit.
Every breakfast was a work of art. Karen prepared each meal with love and care, and served it with elegance—placemats laid out, beautiful China, sparkling glassware, and a perfect explanation of each dish served to us at the table. The breakfast tacos, home fries, fruit salad of summer-fresh fruit, and especially the scrambled eggs, infused with herbs from her garden—so fluffy, buttery, and delicious—were unforgettable. Genuinely have never had scrambled eggs so good before! Even her scalloped potato dish, which I normally would never make myself because it’s so tedious, was layered, rich, and absolutely incredible. The handmade pastries that paired with the meal, I would snack on later because I didn’t have enough room! Her quiche was just as perfect.
But it was the French toast that left me speechless: perfectly crispy on the outside, rich and custardy inside, and topped with the most delicious cream cheese whip I’ve ever tasted. It was, without a doubt, the best French toast of my life. The rooms were immaculate, with high-quality linens, soft pillows, and a design that made you feel instantly at ease. Rick and Karen, along with their sweet little dogs, have created something rare and special at the Porterhaus. It’s not just a stay—and it was a God-sent getaway.
We are already planning another visit.
Thank you for your hospitality. God bless this home.
