    For 4 persons we ordered
Pierogi, Wurst Platte and Schnitzel Au Gratin all were very tasty and excellent quality.AUTHENTIC GERMAN Cusine.
The Blackforest pastry was also very well prepared and tasty.
Highly recommend Otto’s in Fredericksburg, Texas, USA

    Very disappointing and unprofessional experience.

I called Otto’s German Bistro before coming and specifically asked if they take reservations. The lady on the phone told me they do not take reservations and that it is first come, first served.

Because of that, we arrived right at 5:00 PM with 2 adults, 1 child, and a baby. When we got there, the same staff told us to wait a little. After waiting about 5–10 minutes, they then told us they were not taking a “big table.” We were not a big party at all, just a small family.

What made the situation even more confusing was that the restaurant was only about 50% full at the time. If they were not able or willing to seat us, they should have told us clearly from the beginning instead of making us wait.

Overall, this was a very strange and disappointing experience. The communication was poor, and the way we were treated did not feel professional or welcoming at all.

Kind of disappointed. Basic. Nothing special. Nothing authentic. If you have spent some time in Germany, you would understand what I mean. Definitely better restaurants around the area.

We decided on this place for dinner based off other reviews and the close proximity to our hotel. We had to choose a table on the outdoor patio because the main dining room was fully booked with reservations. They had outdoor fans so despite the heat it wasn't unbearable, but the flies were an issue. We were given glasses of water with no ice! We ordered the pretzel as an appetizer it came with a cheese sauce and mustard, the mustard was very good but we didn't care for the cheese sauce. For our entries we ordered the Wurst Platte which was very tasty. And we ordered the Schnitzel Au Gratin the breaded porkchop had no flavor and was covered in a type of marinara sauce, the potatoes were not a AuGratin style but more like roasted baby potatoes, very disappointed.

We had to sit outside… flies were
all over us and our food. I shared a meal with my father and it was still over $100 and we left hungry, food was not worth the price, my German
Grandmother would have been so disappointed. The waiter never came and asked us if we wanted a refill on our wine or refilled our water, I will never come back.

The best food in Fredericksburg, full stop. Otto's is doing something original in a town full of safe, tourist-facing menus. The duck schnitzel is masterfully prepared - crisp, perfectly seasoned, and clearly the product of a kitchen that knows what it's doing. The pierogis are outstanding. Everything on the plate feels intentional. The soft pretzel with house mustard is not run of the meal. You will remember this one. This is the kind of restaurant that would hold its own in any city. If you're only choosing one dinner in Fredericksburg, make it Otto's.

Small, intimate, authentic German. Reservations are a must. We enjoyed the pretzel appetizer, wurst plate and duck schnitzel with a duck egg added on top. Highly recommend all of those the dipping cheese with the pretzel was amazing. The food was incredibly rich and it was the best spaetzle I’ve ever had. Another unexpected highlight from this meal was our cocktail. They strain it with whole milk and it takes out all of the impurities, making the drink incredibly light and refreshing. Truly unique- must try.

Phenomenal plates: the flatbread (flammkuchen) was crispy and we loved the contrast of the arugula with balsamic against the salty toppings. The smokey beer was unique, full-bodied and paired great with our plates. The Duck Schnitzel is absolutely worth the rave. We also tried the peorgi and their haus wursts and nothing skipped a beat. The service was excellent as well; Jennifer was pleasant and attentive and offered up great suggestions and descriptions of the menu. Don't pass it up when driving through Fredericksburg!

Very cool ambience and great service.

The food was just okay with high prices and small portions. We don’t mind paying a premium for food that is incredible but this missed the mark. The pretzel was doughy and almost tasted undercooked. The bean soup was underwhelming, nothing stood out in the flavor profile of the soup. My sweetie got the little pizza bread, which was very good.

Our server, Tiffany was excellent. She was personable and attentive.

This is a small restaurant with limited seating, when we arrived there was a large boisterous party near the door so it was very hard to chat comfortably but after they left it was very easy to hear each other.

The tables are close to one another, the couple behind us were close enough to reach out and touch.

Visiting Fredericksburg we decided to try something different for us. We lucked into seats at this very popular restaurant. We were seated without a wait. They had a very good wine selection and an ample supply of German beers. My husband ordered the Paulaner, I ordered a glass of wine. Both were delicious. We also decided to try their pretzel with mustard and cheese for an appetizer. The mustard was so good with a delicious German pretzel. For our main course we ordered the bratt for my husband and I had the schnitzel. We finished with black forest chocolate cake. All perfectly prepared and delicious. We will be back.

Super friendly waitress (Xanthis) sorted me iut with the Duck Schnitzel and a lovely generous glass of texan red. The Duck Schnitzel was fantastic, nicely breaded and the sides paired up with it so nicely. Much enjoyed solo meal following a work trip in texas!

Amazing servers, amazing food, and great drinks. The menu is German inspired and the quality is astounding. They have a great selection of cocktails, wine, and imported German beer. The schnitzel was amazing both the pork and the duck, someone in our party also ordered the lamb chops which were also incredible. The appetizers also didn’t disappoint. I would highly recommend this experience.

Imaginative take on some classic German fare. We shared the sauerkraut balls and the duck breast schnitzel. Both were delicious. The service was friendly and attentive and we had a lovely evening on the patio. If ever in town again, this is our stop for dinner!

Wow! What a great experience here! Great food, service, drinks, and atmosphere! I had the pork chop and my husband had the wurst for dinner- both great! Our apps were good too. We got the cheesecake for dessert, and out personal opinion, the bleu cheese in it was too much, so we were not fans of that, but wanted to give it a try. I would eat here again!

Finally a German bistro in Fredericksburg with actual German dishes!!!! Low key birthday dinner for myself and my best friend, couldn't have been better! Excellent wine list, featuring Rhine wines, interesting cocktails of all sorts, and a short menu of well crafted dishes. I had the duck schnitzel and my friend had the braised short ribs. Both were to die for, with perfect sides. The star for myself was my birthday cheesecake! Such creativity putting a bleu cheese in a sweet dish. The candied pecans make the dish, and I will forever recommend this dessert. My chef friend tried with me, but as she's not a bleu cheese fan, she was not a fan, but did appreciate the work behind it. Overall, we will definitely return!

We went here for our tenth anniversary on the advice of a friend, whose advice appears to have been years’ old. We were greeted and checked in well, but after being seated we were greeted lacklusterly by our server. She was was… fine. She took our order and brought us our food but that was about it. Oh, other than the time she found to rub the other server’s thigh at the bar during our meal. That she found time for, no congratulations, no celebration other than a warm glass of sparkling wine. Our tenth anniversary was about as important as such a thing would be to a Chipotle; they are guaranteed customers because of name recognition, why should they care about your individual experience? The dessert was hard, as was the bread. I was extremely disappointed. Next time I am in Fredericksburg I will skip Otto’s, which is maybe what they wanted the whole time, no non-locals. If that’s what they want, they’ll get their wish eventually and no one will ever come again, local or not.

Oh, and all of this was at 7 PM, long before serving fatigue should set in. Maybe it’s a small town, but if you’re server at a big name restaurant, let’s make 8:30 the cut off for not giving a crap anymore.

We decided to stop by to check out this place, while visiting Fredericksburg. We didn’t have plans or reservations. It was early on a Friday evening, and got lucky to get a small table upfront. We ordered the flat bread as an appetizer and we both ordered the duck schnitzel. It’s a breaded duck breast, topped with an optional fried egg. It’s really a great combination. Presentation is beautiful and it comes with sauerkraut. Food was delicious. Atmosphere is very nice and service was good. We will be going back there next time we visit Fredericksburg.

Just had an amazing experience at Otto’s as a last minute dinner to finish off a weekend celebrating our wedding anniversary with camping at Big Bend National Park. Definitely recommend making reservations if you can but we were lucky enough to score seats at the bar for our evening meal. Violet the bartender was extremely knowledgeable and had great recommendations for drinks, as well as the best drink pairings to go with whatever we ordered. The duck schnitzel was AMAZING and my classic bratwurst plate was absolutely delicious as well. We will definitely be back to share this fantastic find with friends and family.

Strongly recommend you call ahead for reservations for more than 4 people. You can only make reservations online for 4 but you can call them and make a reservation if you have more people. We didn't make a reservation but they somehow found seating for us on the patio. They do allow dogs on the patio however it is small so if your dog can't hold still I wouldn't recommend it. The duck schnitzel was amazing, I strongly recommend it. The quail and the chevre gnocchi were also very good.

We came here for our anniversary dinner and glad we came!! Our meals were fantastic, drinks fantastic, and the service was wonderful. We had the duck schnitzel and the pork schnitzel. The bread and butter plate was also very good and I liked the toppings: whipped butter, a jam, and sea salt flakes! I wouldn't have guessed salt would be so delicious on bread with butter and jam.

The cheesecake, ooooo the cheesecake!! The bartender said they're known for it and that is well deserved. It was like no cheesecake I've ever had before. It was rich, creamy, deep. The glaze on top was incredible. I thought another reviewer was exaggerating when they said it was the best cheesecake they've ever had... It is mine too!

I loved my hibiscus ginger beer mocktail. I love that while I'm trying to avoid/limit my alcohol intake, the bar had some unique mocktails on the menu that looked pretty, too! It helped me not draw so much attention to the fact I wasn't drinking on our anniversary.

We didn't see any tables available inside when we went to make a reservation online. We saw patio seats available. We were torn between one of the more casual restaurants and this one. I wanted more of a quality food experience for our anniversary date as I assumed it would be more romantic, and it was.

We went for Sunday brunch. Didn't have reservations but were able to secure a walk in table for two just as they opened at 11am. The restaurant has a cute enclosed patio you enter through to the indoor dining. Both spaces are small, yet inviting. Maybe 8 tables inside and a 5 top bar. The coffee is good and the bloody mary has a nice spice that warms you up. We tried Otto's Reuben and the Zitronenwaffel-- both really great! Nice portion sizes and plated beautifully. I really enjoyed the fresh fruit and mint on the lemon ricotta waffle. My husband shared a bite of his Reuben... I know what I'll go for next time! When we are back in Fredericksburg, I'll definitely stop in to try dinner.

Stopped here a bit later in the evening on a Sunday and was able to get a table, but I would recommend reservations. We ordered the bread appetizer, duck schnitzel, and the steak dinner. The food was delicious, especially the duck schnitzel which I added a fresh duck egg onto. A little pricey overall, but a great spot for an intimate date.
