If you are in the area I would suggest a drive through. The visit is free and you get to see where LBJ was born, the ranch his family owned and he used as his retreat when he was President. He, his wife and siblings are buried in a family cemetery on the ranch as well and the one room school house he attended is there as well.

I visited Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park back in July 2025, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. The National Park Service employees were incredibly nice and welcoming, and we were able to join a free guided tour of LBJ’s boyhood home in Johnson City, which was very informative and well done.

The rest of the park is located a few miles away in Stonewall, in the LBJ Ranch area, and it was extremely interesting to explore. The ranch includes LBJ’s ranch, his birthplace, his childhood home, his school, the Texas White House, the family graveyard, and even the runway he used during his presidency. Seeing all of this in one place really gives you a deep appreciation for both his life and his presidency.

What made it even more unique is that the ranch is clearly still an active working ranch, with many cows roaming the land.

Overall, this is a very high-quality NPS site and one I would highly recommend. It left me with a much greater appreciation for Lyndon B. Johnson and his legacy.

It's a free park. Don't confuse it with the state park just across the river. His boyhood home isn't the original one it's a reconstruction. Nice park beautiful property.

Allot 2-3 hours here for a complete tour and walking the trails. Yes we did the drive tour in under an hour but that was our fault for arriving late.

This place is amazing, where do I begin to tell you? A real ranch. With an airstrip and a JET! Yes a jet. And the very respectful and dignified Cemetary with our President and his family members at rest.

Ranger Susie was cheerful and kind. Very informative and helpful. This place warrants a second (and third?) visit. I'm anxious to come back!

I did the driving tour of the state park after visiting the boyhood home and visitor center in Johnson City. Personally I preferred the walking trail in Johnson City as there was more to see at the time when I came here. The Texas White House and surrounding area is currently under construction, so there wasn't much to see other than the ranch, but there was also no activity at the time I arrived. I'm sure once the buildings are restored and access to them is possible again it will be an interesting sight.

Truly amazing and inspiring, you can feel The Johnson's larger than life spirits while you walk where they walked.

Excellent place to walk and form historical knowledge of Texas.
The two times I have been there they have been restoring the white house.
It's time to finish it, gentlemen.
My recommendation, they should charge even if it is something symbolic so that they can help themselves a little.
Service from the main office excellent. Very good staff and very attentive.

For first-time visitors, start in Johnson City at the visitor center. We recommend watching the two 30-minute videos. One of them is the life of LBJ, and the other is of Lady Bird. There are other Johnson historic places in Johnson City. After that, drive 15 miles west toward Fredericksburg and turn into the LBJ State Park entrance. At the visitor center, get permission to do the driving tour of his ranch. His ranch house and the airplane hangar are both closed for renovation until 2025. You can still see the Airforce One under an awning, and the drive around the ranch is worth the time. The views on the north side are beautiful.

We toured the farm house first and then drove to the LBJ house. The house itself was closed for renovation while we were there, which was disappointing. We walked around the grounds and tried to imagine the parties and BBQ picnics that were held here. We were able to see the swimming pool and the plane that was parked in the back. We then drove down the road a bit and visited the family cemetery and the house where LBJ was born. You can also visit the one room schoolhouse that LBJ went to as a young child. Beautiful countryside and it was very peaceful and serene. We saw quite a lot of deer as well on the property. We enjoyed our visit.

Visted on a Saturday afternoon. Visited the school, the graveyard, the house and the plane. Lots of info about LBJ. The house where he grew has actual audio from Lady Bird Johnson which was pretty neat.

A wonderful view in to the life of a US President. I recommend visiting the LBJ Library & the park on the same trip. It was funband they're not too far from each other.
