What makes it fun

We enjoy making new connections at Hye Meadow! Whether you're interested in sampling our wines, savoring a bottle in our beautiful meadow, or paying a visit to Mama and Heidi (our sweet donkeys), we offer a delightful experience for all. Our wine tasting features a selection of 5 of our finest wines. The tasting fee is $25 per person and will be reimbursed upon purchasing 3 bottles. Reservations are required for those interested in experiencing paired tastings. Are you prepared to elevate your Texas Hill Country wine experience? OK, let me tell you a story not so much about the wine, but about the man behind the wine. Don't get me wrong, me makes a very nice Tempranillo and other delicious offerings, yet I digress. I met Mike Batek very much by chance/coincidence/accident, if you believe in such things, one afternoon as I was on my way home from another nearby location. As I was pulling out onto the highway, my battery failed and my vehicle came to rest directly in front of his winery, and I think most importantly, in direct view of his shop. As I was sitting in the shade, resting against one of his beautiful trees, awaiting rescue by tow truck, I heard a four wheeler pull up behind me and the kindly voice of Mike asking if I needed help. His timing, offer of assistance and genuine desire to help we're clear and I couldn't have asked for a more positive "bad" experience. Mike offered to grab his battery tester and see if that was the problem. It was. Then he let me know that the auto shop a hundred feet down the road was an Interstate battery dealer and they were set to close soon. Mike offered to gine me a lift across the road where again I was warmly greeted and helped with a replacement battery for my truck. He carted me back across the road, loaned me some pliers and I got to work. Mike went back to the shop and said he'd be there if I needed anything else. He wasn't kidding. I got the old battery out only to find out that I had read the battery info wrong so I had to go back to the auto shop across the street (I walked this time) and got the right battery. Lucky again, they had what I needed and I walked back to the truck. As I was setting the correct battery in place, I heard a vehicle roll up behind mine and somehow knew that I was about to meet one of Texas' finest. I was right. A Texas State trooper who was on his way home overheard the tow truck dispatcher call and stopped by to give my vehicle a little cover and to make sure I was OK. We chatted while I got the battery installed and my truck fired right up. The state trooper wished me a safe ride home back to Austin and off he went. I got my things gathered, moved my truck off the highway and into the winery driveway. I walked over to the shop and was again warmly greeted by Mike and he immediately offered me a cold bottle of water and the opportunity to freshen up after my dirty project. We talked for several minutes discussing wine and life in general. He sent me home with a bottle of his most recent Tempranillo and I can't wait to try try it! All this to say that even if you never get out to the winery, which you certainly should, know that the man behind the wine is every bit of the stereotypical gentle, kind, helpful Texan gentleman farmer/wine maker you'd want to meet. Texas hospitality at it's finest. Go see Mike and his lovely wife and business partner Denise at their little slice of hill country heaven. You'll be glad you did!

I would have given it five stars because the wines are very good and the place has a lovely, relaxing patio, but the young woman who served us seemed to be in a bad mood. When we arrived, she asked what I wanted, and I told her we were interested in buying a bottle. She asked which one, without showing us the list or offering any suggestions. We asked for something familiar, but in the end, her attitude changed, and she allowed us to enjoy our time there.

So this was my first time here and since I was with friends who have been in the area they recommended we try Hye Meadow Winery. It was late afternoon on a Sunday and I couldn’t have been happier. I tried their wine tasting and our server was so informative and friendly she knew everything. I loved tasting their wine under the large covered patio out back. There was a party on the patio nearby and they looked like they were having a great time just like we were having. It was such a relaxing afternoon I wish I could have stayed longer but we had to get back to San Antonio. I’ve been away from “home” for many years and was glad to find this new to me winery. Will be back.

This is by far the best winery on the 290 strip! The atmosphere is calm and beautiful as well as the wine is on point! Food is delicious and the staff is very heart warming and treats you like family!

Fantastic wines, loved the cabernet. The ladies serving are so friendly and fun. Plus we really enjoyed the air conditioning since it’s crazy hot. I definitely recommend them and I will return.

High-quality service and excellent Wines! If your doing the wine ting in Fredericksburg- don't miss this place! The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. They offer food here that is perfect for pairing with their wines, which are top-notch! Not sure what to order, the staff is super friendly and energetic! Tim was our server on this visit and he has it down! He is very passionate and knowledgeable about wine and you'll enjoy his positive attitude! Looking forward to our next visit!
