Was on vacation from Wisconsin. I’ll say right up front I’m a big beer geek. I’ve been an all-grain award winning homebrewer since 1994 and I’m a certified level BJCP beer judge. Altstadt was great. The building and surrounding grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The beers were great. I REALLY appreciate the focus on German style beers and they do a great job of brewing them. The Pilsner is excellent. The Schwarzbier is superb. The Altbier is great.
I had one non-German inspired beer…an American Pale Ale, Palma Sola. Very well done with a big hop aroma and good hop flavor.
The food! Oh the food. We had 2 kinds of schnitzel, the Beef Bourguignon and the Texas Chili Burger. Everything was hot, fresh and DELICIOUS.
If I had any criticism it would be that the one full pint I ordered (the rest were small flight size pours as I was driving back to Boerne) was the Pils and it was served in a shaker pint glass 😕. Imagine having it served in a Pilsner glass. It would have completely elevated it. Also, my shaker pint glass had a faint rim of soap about an inch from the bottom which created nucleation points around the glass. A focus on beer-clean glassware would also elevate things.
Overall, AWESOME and HIGHLY recommended!! Prost!!
