Altstadt Brewery is not just a pitstop on your Fredericksburg trip—it is the destination. From the castle-like architecture and award-winning pure German beer to the subterranean Rathskeller and gorgeous sunset views, it offers an unforgettable, premium experience. Highly, highly recommended!

We stopped for lunch in the dining room (vs the noisier dining hall) over the July 4th weekend and had the best lunch of our trip. We shared the large buttery German pretzel (excellent!) and the bacon crusted pimento cheese balls appetizer. My husband said he could make an entire meal of those. I had the Jager schnitzel with a slightly sweet mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes. My husband tried the fish and chips. We both left stuffed and happy. Would definitely go back for the food alone. Great meal.

Wow first of all the building is beautiful and the atmosphere is superb 👌
Our server Ashley was absolutely amazing, talk about genuine hospitality. The food items i ordered was not available, but she came to me with a recommendation which I dont see a lot of servers do. But she recommended a dish thay I ended up loving. I just hope the leadership team know how much of an asset Ashley is!

We had a great time here over the 4th of July weekend. The atmosphere was great and our service was outstanding! We sat at the bar and Johnny our bartender was very nice to us. He explained each drink if we had questions and he always had a smile and good character. Thank you Johnny for making our visit here a GREAT one. Definitely coming back.

If you’re looking for true German beer made in Texas, you can stop now!
The Altstadt German Pilsner is as good as what you’d find in Munich, the Altstadt Castle in Fredericksburg is better than what they have in Munich.
    Enjoy!

The level of detail at all levels on architecture and museum was only surpassed by the 'drink' and food.
This is not a sealed concrete warehouse ... 'tis a Bavarian Fiefdom

My husband served in the Army and was stationed in German. He kept talking about his favorite beer. This place served his beer, and one of his favorite German dishes. He enjoyed the food. I didn’t care for it, but this experience was for him, and he loved it. We also listened to live music, while eating out on the patio. It was a very enjoyable experience.

Was on vacation from Wisconsin. I’ll say right up front I’m a big beer geek. I’ve been an all-grain award winning homebrewer since 1994 and I’m a certified level BJCP beer judge. Altstadt was great. The building and surrounding grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The beers were great. I REALLY appreciate the focus on German style beers and they do a great job of brewing them. The Pilsner is excellent. The Schwarzbier is superb. The Altbier is great.

I had one non-German inspired beer…an American Pale Ale, Palma Sola. Very well done with a big hop aroma and good hop flavor.

The food! Oh the food. We had 2 kinds of schnitzel, the Beef Bourguignon and the Texas Chili Burger. Everything was hot, fresh and DELICIOUS.

If I had any criticism it would be that the one full pint I ordered (the rest were small flight size pours as I was driving back to Boerne) was the Pils and it was served in a shaker pint glass 😕. Imagine having it served in a Pilsner glass. It would have completely elevated it. Also, my shaker pint glass had a faint rim of soap about an inch from the bottom which created nucleation points around the glass. A focus on beer-clean glassware would also elevate things.

Overall, AWESOME and HIGHLY recommended!! Prost!!

My husband and I visited Altstadt unexpectedly. It was a rainy Valentine's day and we had our dog with us. They were very dog friendly and accomodated us in their covered out door seating area. They brought our dog a water bowl with ice! We took advantage of their Valentine's meal. We shared the pork belly which was the perfect delicious bite! We were each given an entre - chicken schnitzel and Jager schnitzel both were delicious but the pork Jager schnitzel was out of this world! We split the peach dessert which was so unique and decadent and a generous severing! We took home a couple of bottles of rose. My husband had the house flight which was a nice break from wine tasting all day! Erika our waitress was the best! She was attentive and funny. Definitely our new favorite place!

My husband and I loved this brewery!!! Always been familiar with Alstadt but it was lovely seeing their castle like style exterior brewery, trying a flight, and having some bites!

The hill country flight we both loved - schwartz was a fave (even for someone that doesn’t drink a lot of dark beers) and peach radler was a fave. We got to taste their doppelbach for fun which was delish! We got 6 packs of doppelbach and peach radler for $9.50 which was such good deal.

Pretzel was BEST i’ve ever had - great crust and crunch and not all bread-y like most. We tried Chef’s recommended schmorgasbord - there was a couple meats we didnt care for but overall presentation and flavors of majority of it was delish esp the weisswurst, pork belly, the dried meats, pickles and fruits :)

If you’re searching for the BEST Ruben sandwich around, look no further!
It was hands down my favorite ever! Hubby got the roast beef dip! Very good too! 100% scratch kitchen and farm to table fresh! Portions are HUGE so come ready to share! Beer was crisp, cold and very tasty! We will definitely be back!

We took a large group and toured the brewery, tractor museum and had dinner. We were required to pay $10 per person for reservations, but they were needed for a large group. Dinner was good, but the tours got behind so we had a disjointed start (some eating entrée while others were getting salads). We were in the banquet room, loud but live music. Overall nice, but a bit pricey when all added up.

Good atmosphere but it bums me out that they’re aren’t any non alcoholic options but fruit juice and topo Chico. Seems like a real missed opportunity as more and more people stop drinking.

First restaurant we ate at when visiting town and we were pleasantly surprised! Great food and great beers. We ordered the grilled sausage and peppers and the beef bourguignon and would highly recommend. Thank you to Christopher our waiter for showing us a wonderful evening.

The only thing I took a picture of was the dessert, but it’s because everything looked so good that we wanted to dig in right away…and I’m glad we did because it was delicious!! We had the Flammkuchen, Chicken Schnitzel, Fish ‘n Chips, and Peach Cheesecake. And of course the Oktoberfest bier. Prost! 🍻

Place was gross, could literally taste the fish in my grilled chicken. Someone tell the cooks to stop using the same oil they fry fish in to cook the meats!

I was initially nervous to try this brewery due to other reviewers saying some of the food wasn’t hot enough. I have to say you do not have to worry about that. My wife and I tried the crab cakes for our appetizer. It was decent for a brewery but I wish the sauce was heated. Our chicken schnitzel were great and well balanced. The strawberry chocolate bread pudding was awesome. The beers are fantastic and the staff offered us samples along with a history of their award winning beers. Our waitress was attentive and great fun to interact with. I recommend anyone to come here for the food, drink, and music.

Beautiful place with good amenities. Oktoberfest at Alstadt was an amazing experience. Food portions are huge and are delicious. Everyone there is friendly. Beer of course is good! It was a lot of fun to watch fun contests like the greased Weiner toss and stein hoisting.

Really fun experience in the great hall. The QR code made it easy to relax and just order as we wanted to with no pressure. The food and craft beers were great. The German IPA was excellent.

This beautiful and very spacious place has ample seating indoors and outdoors. Towards the back, they have a German style grand beer room that seats those who are looking for a more casual dining experience. It does fill up fast at some hours of the day! We have been here multiple times. We have truly loved everything about this place. Their food is great. We loved the experience. They also have an additional cozy 'speakeasy vibes' lounge area downstairs where we continued our evening hang out. I absolutely love how this place can cater to all types of people.

Beautiful place, love the decor. My husband loved the sausage on a stick; we didn't think much of the German Kraut. The fish & chips were pretty good, and our server was excellent.
