    What makes it fun

Since its establishment in 1977, Altdorf Restaurant & Biergarten has consistently attracted a loyal following of both locals and tourists in Fredericksburg. Situated on Fredericksurg's bustling Main Street, Altdorf's shady biergarten offers a welcoming retreat where you can indulge in a diverse selection of affordably priced food and drinks. Plus, it's a pet-friendly spot! Indoor dining is also offered in the restaurant's historic limestone building. The menu naturally offers a variety of traditional German dishes and beers, along with a wide selection of salads, sandwiches, steaks, and even Tex-Mex dishes to cater to the preferences of every member of the family. My wife and I had a great time here. She drank a locally brewed dark beer while I drank some Warsteiner Dunkel. Both were ice cold and very tasty. We sat outside of the main restaurant in the separate bar area that is just adjacent to the outside seating area. This was a good place to be, very close to the beer taps, and we enjoyed conversing with the bartender and patrons. The atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming. We both ordered the wurst plate to eat, with three different sausages plus sauerkraut, German potato salad, and some pickles. My wife substituted red cabbage for her sauerkraut just because. All of the food was tasty, cooked and prepared well, and was served warm to our spot. We sat outside to order food and eat as it had been raining some when we first arrived and had finally stopped just before we decided to eat. The pictures were taken outside in front of a mural painted on their wall by an obviously talented artist.

Schnitzel temperature was just medium warm and not hot and they served it within almost seconds of my sitting down so seemed like they had already cooked it earlier and had it sitting around waiting. The mushroom sauce had barely any mushroom flavor and it was supposed to have wildmushrooms But I didn't see any in my sauce. I had a really good Warsteiner premium Dunkel draft beer that definitely went a long way towards softening this review😂.Beautiful stone patio with wonderful wood furniture surrounded by stone and rod iron fencing.

My husband (then-boyfriend) was stationed in Germany for 4 years and I visited a few months one summer. The food here was the most authentic of the 3 places we tried this weekend. The weinerschnitzel was so crispy and tender at the same time. The flavor of the cabbage was not overwhelming. Everything was a great balance. This place also had the best spaetzel of the three places. Service wasn’t bad at all, but it could have been better. There were no utensils or salt/pepper at our table when they brought our food. We ordered desert to-go and they didn’t include utensil either. Nonetheless, I’d come here again for sure.

Me and my sister went on a Sunday. It was cold and rainy. The atmosphere was delightful but it was a little chilly in the restaurant. Annette was our server and we couldn't ask for better service. I ordered a sausage on a pretzel bun with french fries. It came with pickled cucumbers which were delicious and caramelized onions and a sweet mustard. That was delicious too.My sister ordered the goulash and spatzel along with a German beer that she said was delicious. We ended up sitting in the bar speaking to the bartender. She told us about the different types of German beer they offered. We had an enjoyable time at Altdorf. Will go again and would highly recommend this establishment.

What a fantastic experience. The food was absolutely delicious, the peach old fashioned was amazing! The music and atmosphere was so relaxing and our server Aaron was spot on with recommendations (esp the old fashioned). He was friendly, attentive and professional. This will be our go to in Fredericksburg for authentic German food!

Oh my gosh, what a gem we found! I hadn't had any German food in years and I had a massive craving. Boy am I glad we found this place. Not only is it so cool with its beautiful historical building and preserving of the well that you can look down into, but also the food is amazing. Our server was even german! We enjoyed every bite. Best caprese I've ever had--the roasted garlic was an unexpected delicious touch. Very reasonable prices too. Great value. We will be back!
