What makes it fun
Luckenbach was founded as a Trading Post in 1849. The Post Office/ General Store/ Beer Joint was founded in 1886. In 1970, Hondo Crouch, Guich Koock, and Kathy Morgan bought Luckenbach after seeing it advertised in the paper. They used the old buildings for special festivities, song-picking, domino playing, and beer drinking under 500-year-old oak trees. These festivities and activities are still honored today. In 1973, Jerry Jeff Walker recorded Viva Terlingua which went gold, in Luckenbach. Bobby Emmons & Chips Moman wrote "Luckenbach Texas" 4 years later, which Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson used to make Luckenbach famous globally. Willie still holds his 4th of July Picnic at Luckenbach each year. Visitors enjoy the timeless atmosphere, cold beer, live music, and other entertainment.
