    What makes it fun

Fort Martin Scott Historic Site is a meticulously preserved 19th-century military post. Established in 1848, it was one of the earliest frontier forts in Texas and served as a vital outpost during the turbulent mid-1800s. Visitors can explore historic buildings providing insights into the daily life of soldiers stationed there. The site also features informative exhibits showcasing the fort's history and its significance in the context of Texas' settlement and westward expansion. What sets Fort Martin Scott apart is its dedication to living history events and reenactments allowing visitors to witness demonstrations of period-correct activities, such as military drills, blacksmithing, and cooking. It offers a vivid and immersive experience, making history come alive for all who visit.

Neat restoration of a Fort with 1 original building, some new replicas and interpretive signs. Neat history at this place; James Longstreet of Gettysburg fame was once a post commander here.

There is a ton of history here. The settlers had a treaty here in 1847. There was a lot of fighting in the area. The views are amazing. Five Stars.

Great place to walk around. The signs are kinda hard to read but the visitors center had a very helpful and knowledgeable caretaker, Jeanette.

I enjoy visiting historical sites. This place needs the traffic and donations for being such an integral part of Texas history. Please stop by. If you can donate, please do so. Fort Martin Scott deserves much more attention and financial support! The people in the visitors center were knowledgeable & friendly and enthusiastically answered questions. It's a self-guided tour set on some beautiful acreage. The trees are worth the trip. These old oaks are so majestic and have seen some history!

Wonderful place to visit when they have a living historian presentation. They were there the entire day with temps in the 40s. Dedicated and knowledgeable folks who truly care about educating and helping the public experience local history. If you attend an event they accept donations so please contribute.
